Transforming the Gold Coast: Construction Commences on $154M RDX Life Sciences Centre at Lumina

Exciting news emerging from Lumina as construction commences on the highly anticipated RDX Life Sciences Centre. Developed by Northwest Healthcare Properties, in collaboration with Economic Development Queensland, this state-of-the-art facility is set to revolutionize the healthcare and research landscape in Queensland. With its focus on clinical excellence and innovation, RDX promises to be a world-class hub for life sciences, research, and technological advancements.

The $154 million RDX Life Sciences Centre is a significant milestone for Australia. Designed to achieve a 6-Star Green Star rating, the building will embody sustainable and resilient principles while delivering cutting-edge healthcare solutions. Its completion in mid-2025 will mark another crucial step in positioning the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct as a leading hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

RDX will serve as the home to the Australian-first image-guided therapy surgical and robotics training centre. This ground-breaking facility will offer specialized training for stroke, neurovascular, cardiovascular, and spinal conditions, utilizing the latest advancements in image-guided therapies. By providing unique training opportunities outside of traditional hospital settings, RDX aims to attract the best minds in the industry and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.

To celebrate the commencement of construction, a sod turn event was held on-site, graced by The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe, Minister for Tourism, Innovation, and Sport, along with prominent figures from Economic Development Queensland, City of Gold Coast, Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University, and other esteemed partners of NorthWest and the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Minister Stirling Hinchliffe expressed his enthusiasm, emphasizing the profound impact that RDX will have on the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct. He remarked, “This world-class life science, research, and innovation building will cement our position as one of the most advanced health and knowledge hubs in the Asia-Pacific region. It exemplifies the commitment of the Palaszczuk Government to fostering cutting-edge science and generating health-tech jobs within Queensland.”

RDX, spanning eight levels and covering over 14,500 square meters of gross floor area, will incorporate research, biotech, clinical, and educational functions to create a holistic and collaborative environment. The facility will house a diverse range of offerings, including neuroendovascular radiology, interventional cardiology innovation and training, specialized rehabilitation services, phase 1 clinical trials, research, virtual care, and various other health-related uses. By bringing together leading experts, state-of-the-art technologies, and world-class infrastructure, RDX will serve as a platform for healthcare experts to pioneer global exemplar projects utilizing cutting-edge technologies.

Since the launch of Lumina following the Commonwealth Games, eight out of 16 development-ready sites at Lumina are either sold, agreed for sale or under negotiation, including the $154 million RDX Life Sciences Centre.
